Always Have a Trophy in Mind

Penn State has an empty trophy case sitting in its team meeting room. It’s not hidden or tucked away, it’s in a spot the players walk by every day.

The squad has always had the trophy case sitting in the team meeting room. While the goal is ultimately a national championship.

For me, my trophy, or rather my “empty case” if you will, is a 1962 Roberto Clemente bobblehead.

Before I allow myself to buy one, I have a big goal in mind that I need to achieve before I do.

This “empty case” keeps me hungry. It keeps me striving and grinding. It keeps me pushing for one more and focused on my biggest goals.

Is it silly? Yes, but then again, aren’t all trophies rather silly?

Trophies, in and of themselves, are just pieces of metal. Anyone can have one made or bought, but that’s not the point.

Trophies are a symbol. They’re a symbol of blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifice. They’re a symbol of your priorites, character, and identity.

So what’s your big goal? What’s your next trophy?
