MENTAL FITNESS FOR ATHLETES

Giving athletes the mental edge to perform at their best.

In sports, we hear coaches say that “The game is 90 percent mental,” and yet, ironically, 100 percent of practice time is dedicated to developing an athlete’s physical abilities.

Not only do we work with athletes looking to go from good to great or great to elite, we also help communities increase access to sports as well.

What does our curriculum teach athletes?

How to get the mental edge to accomplish your athletic dreams.

Ask any elite athlete what sets them apart from other average or even high-level athletes, and it’s not their physical training regimen that talk about, it’s their mindset!

Teach character and inspire individuals to realize their true potential.

Gain greater mental resilience, inspiration, and confidence. These are the characteristics that will make you not only successful in sports, but that will stick with you throughout your life, bringing out both the best in yourself and others around you

Teamwork, self-discipline, belief in one’s self.

We perform at our best when our attitude and enthusiasm is strong, and conversely, our performance suffers when our confidence and passion are weak.

Gain greater mental resilience, inspiration, and confidence.

Mindset is the effort and attitude you bring to a challenging endeavor. In life, we can’t always control the outcomes we face, but we can control how we chose to respond to them.

TIPPING THE SCALES

Our goal is to teach athletes to get the mental edge in sports; however, our larger mission is increase access to sports so that kids who are at-risk have greater protective factors in their lives.

Many therapists and school administrators are familiar with ACE's (Adverse Childhood Events) which include abuse, neglect, household dysfunction, addiction and others. ACE score is to help quantify trauma. The more trauma a child has the more likely he will be to drop out of school.

Here at Mental Fitness, we help at-risk youth by…

Teaching kids a mindset of resilience BEFORE challenging events occur. This should be taught in the classroom as a standard part of the curriculum.

Improving access to mentors and coaches who can show kids a better path is possible. This will reach kids “on the fence” and demonstrate to them that a better way is possible and achievable.

Investing in increasing access to sports which acts as a clear protective factor. For every $1 spent on community sports, it can generate nearly $4 in return through reduced healthcare spending and lower crime.

Let's Work Together

Mental Fitness would love to collaborate with your team, students, coaches, teachers and others to help young athletes and students learn what it takes to tip the scales in their favor.

Research shows that mental coaching can increase enjoyment by 67% and reduce burnout by 41% in young athletes.

We can come speak, join a practice, white board in the locker room. Anything that we can do help your student athletes.

STUDENT-ATHLETE COACHING

1 on 1 commitment to excellence.

We are commited so much to helping our athletes that we have student-athlete coaches who are a self-pay service catering specifically to student-athletes to aid athletes in six specific areas:

Performance anxiety, team building, on/off the field issues, overcoming injury and adversity, leadership, and balancing student-athlete life.

WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING?

Rob DePietro

Youth Football and Baseball coach. Blackhawk School District.

This book is full of great stories that athletes of any age can relate to. This book teaches lessons in life on and off the field of toughness, resilience and hard work.

Most importantly this book showed me practical lessons that I can easily teach my young athletes on what it takes to be successful on and off the field. I would recommend this book to any athlete of any age and you won't be disappointed!

Paul Catuccio

Director of Athletics, PE, and Health. Bridgeport Public Schools

The Mental Fitness presentation delivered to the Bridgeport boys and girls basketball teams was truly impactful. The message was engaging, relatable, and perfectly tailored to student-athletes.

It gave our players tools to build confidence, manage pressure, and strengthen their mindset both on and off the court. Our teams walked away motivated and inspired. We're grateful for the opportunity to provide our athletes with strategies that will benefit them far beyond basketball.

Sharvez Brown

NCAA Basketball Official, MA in Applied Sociology

Steve’s presentation was impactful, engaging, and inspiring. Whereas most coaches say “The game is 90 percent mental” Steve offered our athletes practical strategies to achieve a competitive mental edge both on and off the court.

Through the use of real-life athletic stories, Steve taught our athletes self-management tools, self-confidence strategies, and perseverance on and off the court.

I would behoove every coach and athletic director to engage their athletes in this educational experience. The implementation of the Mental Fitness curriculum will greatly contribute to healthier outcomes for our youth, families, and communities.
